Hi, I’m Matt. I’m 33 years old, a husband, dad of two amazing kids, music educator, and lifelong lover of all things creative.
I went to school for Music Education and have been teaching for the past three years. Music has always been my heartbeat—long before I was in the classroom, I spent years as a singer-songwriter, performing throughout Albany’s Capital Region. I’ve played in cozy coffee shops, lively community events, and even organized and performed in several benefit concerts for the American Heart Association—causes close to my heart both literally and figuratively.
But my story isn’t just about music. It’s about navigating life with vision loss.
I was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) when I was just 5 years old. Over the years, I’ve faced my share of trials and tribulations—learning how to adapt, how to problem-solve, and how to keep doing the things I love even as my vision changed.
Life threw me another curveball when both of my children were also diagnosed with RP. As a parent, it’s a complex mix of emotions—grief, worry, hope, and determination. But my wife, who is endlessly supportive, and I have made it our mission to teach them that vision loss is just one part of who they are—not the definition of their lives.
This blog is my way of sharing what I’ve learned—the tools, tips, and resources that make daily life more manageable and empowering for people with vision impairments. I know firsthand the challenges, but I also know the incredible resilience and creativity that can come from adapting.

Whether you’re here because you have RP, another form of vision loss, or you’re supporting someone who does, I hope this space feels welcoming and useful. You’re not alone in this.
Thanks for stopping by—let’s keep learning and navigating this journey together.
— Matt
